Creativity: a place to imagine

Picture 10
The Art Room

Our creative arts room provides the opportunity to let your imagination flow.  It is not about producing a work of art but allowing yourself to explore colour and shape and feeling without necessarily using words.  This room is available to guests throughout the week and is well stocked with a variety of materials, including pastels, paints and clay, collage, weaving and jewellery-making to stimulate your own creativity.  Early on in the week a session is usually arranged to introduce guests to the possibilities within this space.

We have several people available who can help you make good use of this creative space so please let us know if this is something which interests you.

Katie is our specialist Art Psychotherapist so if you would like to book some time with her please complete this form.

Please note that we do ask for a contribution towards all one-to-one sessions.  See here for our Donations page.

The garden at Holy Rood is naturally beautiful and inspires both wellbeing and creativity.  Time spent in nature can stimulate our sense of wellbeing.

If you don’t want to come and stay overnight, or you’ve never been on a retreat before, you might like to come for a day.  Our Wellbeing or Quiet Garden days give participants a theme to explore and plenty of time in the open air or in the creative arts room.

During the year we exhibit the creative work of local people or those who connect in some way with the Holy Rood Community.  Their work offers inspiration to guests and visitors.

See here for details of what’s on in the Gallery.

A place to tap into the creative part of me.
Quotes from our guests

Over the years we have been pleased to borrow exhibits from Westhill Endowment in Birmingham. We are grateful to Westhill for their support of our arts, ecological and educational programme.

Current Exhibition:

Our current exhibition is by local artist Sarah Pym.

Sarah used the Covid 19 Lockdowns to reflect on a range of different emotions, using mixed media to express something of them in art form.We have found this exhibition to be particularly inspiring for guests, many of whom have been inspired to be creative in the arts room next door to the Gallery. You can also visit Sarah's website.
