Learning: a place to question

learning

At Holy Rood learning takes many different forms.  Walking through the gardens we may learn about the healing properties of plants and be introduced to the many kinds of birds that are at home here; in conversation – or in the silence of the chapel – we may learn that even our painful experiences are key parts of our stories and can be times of growth and enlightenment.  We hope to hold the space which allows all, guests and community, to explore, expand and deepen relationships with our own selves, with others, with the Earth and with the great Mystery we might name God or the Divine.   Learning together, we may find a deeper sense of home in who we are and cultivate a sense of greater belonging in the world, encouraged and supported on this healing journey by the companions walking with us.

Library 3

Our library is on the ground floor of Juliet House and is full of excellent books on spirituality, psychology and other related subjects.  We regularly update our stock and want it to be a resource open to all.  Do arrange a visit to browse our library catalogue or arrange some personal study time here.

The library is a comfortable space with easy chairs and a large writing desk, an inviting environment to read and reflect, and to be inspired or challenged by writing. It is open to our residential guests throughout their stay.  We also welcome ‘in person browsers’ but please contact us in advance so we can ensure that our library volunteers are ready to welcome you.  Please spread the news about the Library to anyone you think may benefit.

Library 4

We hope that our growing library provision will become a useful resource for residential guests, day visitors, students and others who may be taking courses or are simply interested in theology and spirituality.

The Centre for the Study of Theology and Health

The Centre for the Study of Theology and Health based at Holy Rood helps to resource people’s quest for wisdom and deeper spiritual understanding, and reflects the community’s commitment to a prayerful, questioning and theologically reflective way of life.  This might involve the links between faith and psychology, the role of women in our Christian heritage, or the liberating theologies from those whose lived experience adds a richer perspective to the dominant narratives of western theology.  The Centre arranges seminars, conferences, research days and workshops in all areas that relate to health and healing.

See our programme of events for more details.
