A Typical Day At Holy Rood

houses

Our programme is relaxed so that you can have whatever kind of stay you need.  We have a gentle routine which guests can join in with as much or as little as they choose. We would simply ask that you let us know if you are not planning to come to lunch or dinner so that we don’t worry about you!

Breakfast is available between 8am and 10am on a help-yourself basis.

At 9am the Community begins the day with quiet prayers in the Chapel, guests are always welcome but you may just want to sleep.

At 11am we gather in the main lounge for refreshments, a good chance to catch up with one another.  For those who prefer to be quiet the Kingfisher Lounge is available during breaks.

Lunch is served at 1pm.

At 3.30pm we gather for refreshments, as at 11am.  We are famous for our home-baked cakes and biscuits (other snacks are available).

Supper is served at 6pm.

The Community ends the day with quiet prayers in the Chapel at 7.15pm, guests are always welcome.

At the end of the week we offer a very simple Communion Service with anointing for our healing journeys.  This has been valued by guests of all faiths and none.  All are welcome.

On arrival each guest will receive their programme for the week, including any one-to-one sessions which have been pre-booked.

We usually organise an introduction to the Creative Arts Room early on in the week and this room is available to guests throughout the week.

We usually have a meditation and prayers for Justice and Peace midway through the week.

A Wellbeing session may be arranged during the week.

The evenings are usually quiet but there are games available or a short walk may be arranged.

If you would like company, Community members are often around.

The House is so open, friendly and peaceful…a true
brief encounter…
I will come back to drink at the well –
might even get a cloudburst!

Quotes from our guests

We try to cater for all diets but please tell us about any food allergies or sensitivities.  We grow vegetables and fruit in our garden and use as much of the produce as possible.

Each day there is a chaplain available for quiet company.  The chaplain can help you to find your way around and help arrange for you to have a more in-depth conversation if this is what you would like.

I feel like my whole self has been affirmed here…
